About Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga is healing and a very simple practice. We settle into an asana for 3-7 minutes and slowly relax our muscles to allow the deeper tissues–the connective tissues that wrap our muscles and make up our joint capsules–to be safely stretched and stimulated.
The alignment rules of the postures are also simple, but more importantly they are functional and organic: we listen to our bodies and lead ourselves into surrendering to the shape of the natural contours of our pelvis, hips, spine and upper body.
However, bringing ourselves into this simplicity can be challenging. The practice of being still and quiet for minutes at a time can be trying enough, let alone while dropping into a powerful stretch that moves across wide sheets of fascia and drops deep into the ligaments of the joints. Listening to our bodies to find the natural alignment of the pose requires a power of discrimination, and an understanding and familiarity with the ever-changing sensations in the body.
In this training, we will analyse, observe and practice all of these elements of Yin Yoga in depth. We will examine ourselves thoroughly, using meditation techniques or mindfulness that guide us into a steady awareness of the changing sensations in the postures. This is a very experiential course; we will use hands-on study and examine each other with anatomical range of motion tests. We develop in this way an understanding of the infinite variety of human body shapes, clarifying why every posture should be modified to the individual. We learn the basic techniques to help us develop a safe and effective personal practice and if you are a yoga teacher it will help you to lead each Yin Yoga student into a practice that respects their unique skeletal shape guiding them into taking the appropriate asana for each individual.
There are not prerequisites for students applying for this 40 hours further training course. To attend Module 2 there is no need to have done Module 1. Each module is a standalone 40 hour course, but we highly recommend attending both!

"I completed the 40 hr Pelvis and Spine with Gaby in the Lake District. This course is a fundamental game changer for all yoga teachers. It changes the way you see the human form and the way you teach yoga. The in-depth anatomy that we studied to understand the variety of each human form revolutionises the way you teach. Gaby embodies this yoga and is one of the best yoga teachers I’ve ever studied with. The setting is also a huge part of the training and the sense of community within the group was very special. Gaby brings both depth and lightness to her classes and again it’s a joy to spend long days with her. The course was beautifully structured to allow both self development, restoration and learning that goes deep. I immediately booked the 40 hrs Upper body and now teach yin to my students who adore this style of yoga." -Maudie Johnson, Chamonix

Gaby has all the qualities of a brilliant teacher; developing close relationships with her students, dedication to her subject, a passion for teaching, the ability to motivate her students and the ability to create a learning environment where everyone feels safe and engaged. Her yoga-teacher training gets ten-out-of-ten for me; unbelievably effective and exceeding all my expectations" - Ian Roberts, Ambleside, UK
"The Continuum Yoga teacher training that I attended during 2018, which was carefully and expertly designed and delivered by Gaby Maass, was one of the most stimulating and fulfilling parts of my year.
The course was a wonderful combination of anatomical and philosophical theory with lots and lots of practice, reflection and debate. I had never taught any subject before and wasn’t sure that I was cut out to be a teacher at all, but I went into the course keen to learn more about myself and about yoga in general.
The environment that Gaby creates is both supportive and positively challenging. There was no pressure placed upon us, but I very quickly found the confidence to have a go at leading sessions and soon started teaching a regular class of my own, which I find extremely rewarding.
Gaby is such a talented, skilful and dedicated yoga teacher herself and an inspirational human being. To have had the opportunity to practice with and learn about teaching yoga from someone so gifted, in my view of world class standard, was and continues to be a real honour." - Samantha Rostás, Windermere, UK
"I highly recommend this Yoga Teacher Training. Gaby delivers the sessions in a very thorough, inspiring, innovative and fun way, drawing on her great depth of experience. The monthly structure of the course enabled me to embed the teaching in my own yoga practice. This has given me the confidence to teach people of all ability, in a way that is enjoyable and safe for them, taking into account their own unique anatomy. A Yoga Teacher Training of superb quality !" - Dr. Andrea Baqai , Rydal, UK
"Since qualifying as a teacher through Gaby's course I have felt extremely grateful for the depth and quality of teaching that I received. In my classes I feel confident to deliver creative and effective teaching, and able to respond to student questions. Importantly I now know how to adapt postures to their unique physiology. Gaby empowered me to incorporate my own strengths and qualities into my teaching, within a clear framework, and her teaching continues to inspire me as a new yoga teacher and in my own life. I am really excited to share my new knowledge with yoga students in a growing weekly class, and also with my many outdoor athlete friends." - Matt France, Windermere, UK
"I was introduced to Yin Yoga at one of Gaby’s workshops in 2016. I was blown away by both the quality of teaching and the content. Although I have practised yoga for around 35 years, I found that Yin Yoga really reached the parts nothing else could. I was delighted when a few months later Gaby announced that she was going to be running a teacher training course in monthly instalments over the next year. I found the course content was excellent, and the time between training weekends gave me plenty of time to practice and research material that formed the focus for that month. Gaby patiently and diligently went through the course material, taking great pride in the course content and its delivery. The yoga retreat in Turkey was an amazing working holiday to complete the training.
Highly recommended teacher training course which, on completion, left me confident to teach Yin Yoga to both beginners and more experienced students" - Rachael Shreeve, Kendal, UK
"I enrolled on Gaby's teacher training course with very little confidence but a big passion for yoga. As Gaby is such an experienced teacher I wanted to soak up as much knowledge from her as I could to incorporate this into my home practice. I never intended to teach yoga to others, this was not the reason I joined the course. I did it for myself. I would highly recommend Gaby's teacher training courses to anyone that wants to teach or just wants to expand their practice. The classes are run in a fun and experiential way with lots of theory added in" - Ashleigh Calvert, Ulverston, UK
